Personal records of Dr. Mary Boppell Johnston, former professor and department chair of the Home Economics Department of Whitworth College, Spokane, Washington, 1941-1961. Following graduate work in a Ph. D. program at the University of Wisconsin, she published her thesis on the training needs of Americans working overseas, widely read and used by organizations sending personnel abroad. Dr. Johnston also chaired the Home Economics Department at Eastern Washington State University, Cheney, Washington.

Whitworth College was founded officially on February 19, 1890. During the years 1987 and 1988 plans were made to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Of course, this celebration, all during the 1989 year, was an opportune time for a fund drive. (Timothy R.
